Golden ivories in Stamford

Stamford-based Allegro Pianos has been named “Outstanding Bösendorfer Dealer of the Year” by Yamaha Corp. of America, which bills itself as the world”™s largest musical instrument manufacturer.

The award was presented at the 2014 NAMM music products show held in California.

Yamaha recognized Allegro Pianos for its outstanding sales and marketing success with B̦sendorfer pianos. B̦sendorfer is a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha Corp. and one of the worldӪs oldest piano manufacturers.

Accepting the award from Yamaha Keyboard division top management was Allegro Pianos owner and founder Ori Bukai.

Stark expands in Greenwich

Stark Office Suites of Greenwich now occupies approximately 15,000 square-feet of premium office space in Building 2 at The Greenwich Office Park. The space is outfitted with signature Stark features found within the company”™s seven other locations throughout New York City and Westchester County, N.Y., and Fairfield County. So far, the office houses “a healthy mix of clientele,” including private equity, real estate consulting, financial services, insurance, property management and law firms, as well as a number of clients that have set up virtual office services.

 

 

New associate dean for business school at UB

Arthur C. McAdams has been named associate dean of the University of Bridgeport Ernest C. Trefz School of Business, effective immediately.

McAdams joined the faculty at the University of Bridgeport as a senior lecturer in 2007, and began serving as director of graduate studies in 2012.

His executive work experience includes stints at People”™s Bank and Pitney Bowes. He has also taught as an adjunct professor and director of professional studies at Fairfield University School of Business.

“As associate dean, Art will serve as the leader related to academic affairs in the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business,” said Dean Lloyd Gibson. “He will also continue to teach classes in the graduate program.”

 

 

Canet joins Bankwell

David Canet has joined county-based Bankwell, with six branches, as vice president for commercial and industrial lending. Bank President Heidi S. DeWyngaert made the announcement.

Canet is charged with expanding Bankwell”™s commercial and industrial loan portfolio in Fairfield and the surrounding counties in Connecticut and New York. He is based at Bankwell”™s Bedford Street offices in Stamford.

A resident of Stamford, Canet earned his MBA in 1993 from the Columbia Business School and his undergraduate degree in 1989 from Tufts University. He is a member of the CT Small Business Advisory Board.

 

 

 

NAIOP recognizes all things real estate

Stamford-based NAIOP Connecticut & Suburban New York, a chapter of NAIOP, the commercial real estate development association, honored the region”™s most prominent real estate projects, companies and leading professionals at its annual Night of the Stars Awards Gala March 6. The former mayor of Stamford, Michael Pavia, hosted of the event at l”™Escale restaurant in Greenwich.

Two special awards were presented Jeffrey H. Newman, senior vice president, Empire State Realty Trust was honored with the Leadership Award for his longstanding dedication and contributions to the real estate community and to NAIOP. Also, a Special Recognition Award was presented to Mill River Park in Stamford for its positive impact on the community and economic development.

Finalists for the real estate categories in leasing included: HomeServe USA in Norwalk; Save the Children in Westport; and Cannondale Sports in Wilton.

For Connecticut project, the finalists were Shippan Landing and Sound Development Group, both in Stamford; and Norden Park in Norwalk.

Developing leader finalists included Justin Shaw, JCS Capital L.L.C. in Stamford; Clark Briffel, Reckson, a division of SL Green based in White Plains, NY; and Rob Scinto, R.D. Scinto Inc. in Shelton.

A place to call home

Bridgeport-based People”™s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People”™s United Bank, awarded a $2,500 grant to Housatonic Habitat for Humanity in Danbury.

Hospital receives stroke recognition

Stamford Hospital again received designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. The two-year designation confirms the hospital”™s compliance with consensus-based national standards and effective use of established clinical practice guidelines.

“The collective contributions of our entire stroke team are essential to our overall success and we are particularly thankful for all their hard work and dedication in continuing to provide our patients high-quality care,” said Dr. Louise Resor, director of neurology and medical director of the stroke program at Stamford Hospital. “The renewal of this designation verifies that, from our Emergency Department to our specialized facilities, patients receive swift diagnosis and treatment to minimize the likelihood of loss of brain function.”

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and the No. 4 cause of death in the United States, killing more than 129,000 people each year.
