Connecticut Innovations, a quasi-public investment entity, recently awarded $54,000 to five Connecticut-based startups, including one in Darien, for innovative ideas. CTNext, an entrepreneur support network managed by Connecticut Innovations, announced the winners.
Darien-based Vesselon received $10,000 for developing a device to treat stroke victims before they get to the hospital.
Two New Haven companies were awarded funding. Why Science got $10,000 for its cloud-based customizable learning system, and 109 Design was awarded $12,000 for developing a medical monitor and paired smartphone app for the treatment of scoliosis. The device gauges the effectiveness of a patient’s back brace and relays the information to physicians and family members in real time.
East Hartford’s Envirowerks received $10,000 for developing the HodPod, a hydrogen system that increases power for trucks without using more diesel, and South Glastonbury-based FRESH Farm Aquaponics was awarded $12,000 for creating a sustainable farm ecosystem of fish and plants.
