Science magazine has tapped Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. as the world”™s most-respected biopharmaceutical employer.
Boehringer Ingelheim is based in Germany and has its U.S. headquarters in Ridgefield, where it numbers among the 10 largest private-sector employers in Fairfield County, with more than 2,300 workers.
Boehringer was beat out on last year”™s list by Genentech Inc. of South San Francisco, Calif., which placed second on this year”™s installment.
Respondents to the Web-based survey were asked to rate corporate image, leadership and direction, financial strength, company culture, work-life balance, compensation and benefits, as well as being easily adaptable to change and having a thriving research-driven environment.
In separate news, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Boehringer Ingelheim to begin marketing Aptivus, a protease inhibitor designed for AIDS patients developing a resistance to other drugs.
