The U.S. arm of German pharmaceutical firm Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) is laying off approximately 725 employees around the country, including about 50 at its Ridgefield base.
“The actions we are taking now will help us reinvent the way we serve the needs of our patients, and enable us to continue to make significant investments in research and development to continue to identify new medical breakthroughs,” according to a company statement. “We will support affected employees in a number of ways, including severance, outplacement services, and identifying other employment opportunities within the Boehringer Ingelheim network, as appropriate.”
The move follows the axing of approximately 900 positions worldwide in 2014, and the elimination of roughly 50 positions in Ridgefield last year. Following the cuts, BI will have roughly 2,650 employees in Connecticut.
