J.H. Cohn L.L.P. and Reznick Group P.C., independent accounting and consulting firms with a combined 2,000 employees and 25 offices, today announced plans to join forces.
Partners and principals of both firms have agreed in principle to the combination, which is set to take effect in September pending final approvals.
J.H. Cohn, headquartered in Roseland, N.J., has offices in White Plains and Stamford, Conn., while Reznick Group is headquartered in Bethesda, Md. Together, the companies have combined annual revenues of more than $450 million.
Details regarding the management structure of the combined company are not yet available,  J.H. Cohn spokeswoman Julie Rogers Murawski said. The companies have also not yet determined what the new entity’s name will be.
Murawski said both companies have mutually agreed to merge all assets and employees and that the combination is not an acquisition of either company by the other.
“We are calling it a merger of equals or a merger of peers,” Murawski said.
“The combination of these two great organizations immediately elevates us to a preeminent position on the East Coast with offices from Boston to Atlanta, provides a significant expansion in California, and establishes a national footprint with additional offices in Texas and Chicago,” said J.H. Cohn CEO and Partner Thomas J. Marino in a joint statement.
Ken Baggett, managing principal and CEO of Reznick Group, said the combination of the two firms creates “a powerful resource for clients across all of their accounting, tax and consulting needs.”
