Nuclear power is indeed an important bridge to renewable energy but the statement, “Renewable power generation cannot reach significant scale to replace Indian Point’s 2,000 megawatts of electricity, perhaps for decades,” is patently false. In fact, the Champlain-Hudson Power Express (http://www.chpexpress.com/ , which will take excess hydro-power from Niagara Falls to New York City has already received US Corps of Engineers approval. At 1,000 megawatts of clean, renewable hydro-power, it could replace half of Indian Point’s 2 Megawatts.
