A warehouse at 8 Westchester Plaza in Elmsford is being closed with the loss of all 39 jobs effective Oct. 1, a spokesperson for LimeLife USA LLC d/b/a LimeLife by Alcone confirmed to the Business Journal. Work being performed at the Elmsford location is being farmed out to a third-party provider in New Jersey.
The Business Journal was told, “LimeLife by Alcone has experienced tremendous growth over the past 2-3 years. To better serve our Beauty Guides and their customers as we continue to grow, we recently explored several options to expand fulfillment operations. Our transition to a third-party provider affords us far greater capacity than we currently have, better technology, and improved efficiency.”
The spokesperson said the Elmsford employees will be offered the opportunity to interview for jobs with the New Jersey company. A plant closing notice was filed with the state Department of Labor. It classified the action as a plant closing and said the reason is “economic.” It said the employees are not represented by a union.
Product shipping operations took place at the Elmsford location. In addition, the company”™s product returns department received returned goods from U.S. customers at the Elmsford warehouse. In addition to Elmsford, the company has operations in Long Island City.
The company is described as retailing chemical-free, natural, organic skincare and professional makeup.
LimeLife by Alcone invites people to become “Beauty Guides” and earn up to 35% commissions selling its products.
The original Alcone business was founded in 1952 by Alvin Cohen. It started as a specialty store serving the theatrical community with stage makeup. It subsequently grew to also serve television and film worldwide, including providing specialty materials used in creating special effects.
Vincent and Barbara Millardi bought the company in 1982. In 1996, the company launched its own line of products, which eventually led to the formation of a direct to consumer business. In 2015 that business was separated into its own entity which today is known as LimeLife by Alcone.
