H Mart, the Asian-American grocer, will open a supermarket at the now-shuttered former Pathmark location in Highridge Plaza in Yonkers, Brixmor Property Group Inc., the shopping center’s owner, announced Wednesday.
The 41,764-square-foot store, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2016, marks the company’s second location in Westchester, joining another in Hartsdale. H Mart is a division of Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based Hanahreum Group.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said in a released statement that there was significant community interest to bring another grocer to the shopping center at 1789 Central Park Ave., adding that the H Mart store is a “nice complement” to the current Highridge Plaza tenants.
Other tenants in the shopping center include McDonalds, Sally’s Beauty Supply and The UPS Store.
The former Pathmark store closed last fall after its parent company, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July and announced it would close its 25 Westchester A&P and Pathmark supermarket locations by Nov. 26.
Brixmor Poperty Group, based in New York City, owns 519 grocery-anchored shopping centers in the U.S.
