Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. had $133 million in operating income during the second quarter, as the Stratford-based helicopter manufacturer”™s revenue rose 6 percent from a year earlier to $1.4 billion.
Sikorsky was the lone division of United Technologies Corp. to record a year-over-year increase in sales and operating profits. Hartford-based UTC had net income of $976 million as attributable to shareholders, down 23 percent from a year ago, on sales of $13.2 billion, down 17 percent. UTC now expects 2009 sales to total $53 billion, $2 billion lower than earlier projections.
“The year-over-year rate of decline in orders across the business appears to have stabilized, although orders remain lower than previously anticipated,” said Louis Chênevert, CEO of UTC, in a written statement.
Sikorsky is the largest employer in Fairfield County with about 9,000 workers following a small layoff that contributed to $7 million in restructuring charges during the quarter.
