The Murphy Brothers Contracting-built home on Shore Road in Old Greenwich was recently recognized as one of the most innovative projects in the country at the national World of Concrete trade show in Las Vegas.
The award was presented as part of the ICF Builder Awards, an international competition designed to showcase insulated concrete forms, commonly called ICFs.
In construction, ICFs remain in place and become part of the house, with poured concrete filling the foam forms’ centers.
Built last year by Westchester County-based Murphy Brothers ”“ brothers Chris and Sean Murphy live in Greenwich, Chris in the foam-constructed house ”“ the colonial-style, single-family residence was named best in the “small residential” division.
The home while under construction was featured in the Business Journal.
This is the third major “builders award” presented to the house, which was designed by Stamford architect Rex Gedney. Lois Arena of Steven Winter Associates in Norwalk served as the project”™s energy consultant.
The Murphy home is built with a brand called Fox Blocks. Its roof is sheathed with Dow PowerHouse shingles.
In presenting the award, the company said the judges cited “the complexity of the design, the striking architecture and the challenges the construction team overcame to set a new standard for the entire ICF industry.”
