Candidates on primary ballots in Westchester who did not have the backing of political party leaders generally performed less well than did those candidates with party backing, according to preliminary results tabulated by the Westchester County Board of Elections.
In White Plains, Common Council Member Justin Brasch received 1,503 votes for the Democratic nomination for mayor compared with challenger Nadine Hunt-Robinson’s 1,053 votes. She is a former council member.
In the Yonkers Democratic Primary to run for City Council president, incumbent Lakisha Collins-Bellamy beat a field of five candidates by receiving 2,180 or 39% of the votes. One of the candidates, former Council President Chuck Lesnick, who received 927 votes, disclosed that he had suffered a heart attack a few days before the election and was on the road to recovery. On the Republican side, Dean Politopoulis received the party nomination to run for City Council President with 1,115 votes, representing 65% of the votes cast.

Harrison Supervisor and Mayor Richard Dionisio lost his races to receive nominations on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative Party lines to run for another term. Mark Jaffe beat him for the Democratic nomination with 82% of the vote, Thomas Scappaticci beat him with 73% of the votes on the Republican line and Mary Malara received 61% of the Conservative Party votes to defeat him on the Conservative line.
In the contest for the Democratic Party nomination to run for the seat on the Westchester County Board of Elections being vacated by Ben Boykin, who can’t run again because of term limits, White Plains Common Council Member Jennifer Puja defeated Timothy Foley 58% to 42%, or 1,728 votes to 1,242 votes.
