Rapper Quavo, a member of the chart-topping hip-hop group Migos until the 2022 shooting death of his bandmate and nephew Takeoff, performed at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport on April 26.
The 5,700 person venue was however conspicuously empty. Widely circulated videos on social media show low turnout despite the event being part of Sacred Heart University’s Summer Concert series and discounted tickets offered to Bridgeport residents.
The low turnout, particularly given the fact that Sacred Heart reportedly sold 900 tickets to students, has led some to speculate that the tickets were purchased en-masse by rapper Chris Brown in an attempt to snub Quavo as part of a feud. The two rappers have recently released diss tracks targeting each other, taking swipes and trading insults.
Although there is as of yet no solid evidence that the low turnout was intentional or that Brown is behind it, the tactic of buying out concert tickets to make it appear that the opposition cannot draw a crowd is not unprecedented. In 2018 50 Cent purchased 200 front row tickets to a Ja Rule concert as part of their beef.
