Qatar hopes to buy a dozen Black Hawk helicopters from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., in a potential deal valued at $1.1 billion.
The sale is subject to the approval of Congress., with Qatar an ally of the United States.
The contract would include engines from GE Aviations”™ operations in Lynn, Mass., with parent company General Electric Co. based in Fairfield. Stratford-based Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
The announcement comes in the run-up to the biennial Farnborough Air Show in the United Kingdom, scheduled for July 9, where aerospace companies typically make some of their biggest contract announcements.
