Norwalk Community College is receiving funding from the state of Connecticut to establish a one-month crash course in the film industry, with applications due June 30 for classes that begin July 7.
The school already offers an option in television production as part of its regular two-year degree program in communications.
Participants may receive up to 10 weeks of internship-style work on the sets of local film and TV projects.
Connecticut established a 30 percent tax credit on expenses associated with filmmaking in 2006; to date producers have spent more than $400 million shooting movies here. Norwalk Community College has been a shooting locale for two films: “Revolution Road,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and “Through Her Own Eyes,” featuring Uma Thurman.
Quinnipiac University in Hamden and Middlesex Community College in Middletown also received state funding to create film training programs. Curricular and application information can be found at www.ctfilmworkforce.com.
