On Thursday, Sept. 25, Burke Rehabilitation hosted a ribbon cutting in anticipation of the mid-October opening of its newest outpatient facility, at the Wartburg senior living complex in Mount Vernon. The state-of-the-art facility, which will be available to the entire community, represents a major step in Burke’s multiyear strategy to extend its physical rehabilitation services to more patients across the tristate area.
“This expansion marks a key milestone for the growth of Burke Rehabilitation’s outpatient footprint, as the Mount Vernon location is our 15th outpatient therapy site,” said Burke Rehabilitation Executive Director,Scott Edelman, CPA, MBA, CFE, FHFMA. “It is an honor to expand access to our award-winning, patient-centered care and clinical excellence for more residents in and around Mount Vernon. We look forward to continued investment in outpatient therapy as part of our steadfast commitment to expanding and enhancing our services, meeting patients where they are and fully supporting their recovery goals.”
The facility will offer a full range of services for individuals recovering from orthopedic injuries and neurological conditions, in addition to a variety of other diagnoses. Once fully staffed, the Mount Vernon site will support some 15,000 patient visits annually and is expected to employ up to 10 therapists.
“Across our outpatient sites, Burke is known for the highly personalized level of one-on-one care we provide to every patient we serve,” said Burke Rehabilitation Vice President Outpatient Services Steven Tisser, PT, MBA. “We are proud to bring this gold standard of care to Mount Vernon, further extending our reach and access to high-quality rehabilitative care to more patients across the region.”
Created by Cardarelli Design & Architecture P.C. in White Plains and built by Scully Construction in North White Plains, the 3,500-square-foot facility features a roughly 1,800 square-foot therapy gym bathed in natural light, two private exam rooms, two semiprivate treatment bays and additional treatment tables. Patients will engage in one-on-one sessions with their therapists, focusing on tailored exercises and therapy techniques designed to meet their individualized recovery goals.

For its part, Wartburg welcomes the partnership with Burke.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to enable direct access to high-quality outpatient therapy services to both residents of this campus and to those in our greater Mount Vernon community, provided by the skilled team at Burke Rehabilitation,” said David Gentner, Ed.D., president and CEO of Wartburg. “We thank Burke Rehabilitation for bringing their incredible resources to our Wartburg community and beyond.”
Other speakers at the ribbon cutting event included Philip O. Ozuah, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of Montefiore Einstein; Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins; Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard; and Mount Vernon City Council President Danielle Browne.
The site, which received a written citation from New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 1 Wartburg Place, Outpatient Building, first floor.
A member of the Montefiore Health System, Burke Rehabilitation is the largest provider of stroke rehabilitation in New York.
