Rockland Community College has appointed Michael A. Baston as its president, the school announced.
He will replace Cliff L. Wood, who has led the community college in Suffern since 2004. Wood will retire in June.
Baston will start July 1 at an annual salary of $225,000, according to a press release. He most recently served as acting provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at LaGuardia Community College in Queens. Before that, Baston spent 10 years as the dean of student development and campus life for the New York campuses of Berkeley College.
SUNY Board Chairman H. Carl McCall said Baston had “precisely the right balance of professional qualifications and strategic vision to lead Rockland Community College into its next chapter.”
Baston received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Iona College, a Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School and an education Doctorate in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College in Rochester.
