Mercy College unveiled its new $3.7 million research center on Tuesday morrning in Dobbs Ferry.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony was U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, a Democrat, who helped the school acquire the federal grant for the renovation.
The research center in Maher Hall is designed for science, technology, engineering and math uses and has 20 workstations, four servers and can hold between 20 and 25 students. The lab will be used mostly by undergraduate students for research and software training in areas like cybersecurity, computer science and software engineering.
Carolina Hernandez, a project coordinator at Mercy, said in a statement that “the forecast of the current job market along with our technology-driven society put these skills in high demand and providing our students with hands-on opportunities will give them the edge they need to succeed in STEM careers.”
