The Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. and Jones Lang LaSalle recently released the results of their joint survey of the 2014 business climate in the seven-county Hudson Valley region served by New Windsor-based HVEDC.
The study partners said 213 businesses in Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties responded to the questionnaire. Of those, 175 companies have fewer than 50 employees.
The respondents represent a dozen industries in the region, including manufacturing and distribution, accommodations and food services, arts and entertainment, financial services and accounting, health care and educational services, legal services, professional and business services, life science and biotechnology, real estate, nonprofit, information technology, and media, marketing and advertising services.
“While responses trend neutral, challenges remain in the areas of business friendliness of government, competitive incentives, tax exemptions and high business costs and cost of living due to the overall tax burden,” the partners said in their survey overview.
