Four Fairfield County high schools made U.S. News and World Report’s top 10 list of Connecticut schools. The recently published 2014 Best High School rankings reflect the news magazine’s review of 19,411 public high schools across the country.
Among the top 10 in the state, Fairfield County high schools included Weston High School, which ranked third; Wilton High School, which came in sixth; Ridgefield High School, at eighth place; and Staples High School in Westport, which ranked ninth, according to the report.
A total of 44 Connecticut schools made the national list of recognition.
The first two steps in determining a high school’s ranking are measuring students’ performance on state proficiency tests and how well the school’s least advantaged students perform compared to the state average. The third step is examining the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
