The owner of a Greenwich nail salon was sentenced by a U.S. District judge Friday to three years of probation for currency structuring and employment of unauthorized aliens.
Jae Hee Yang, owner of Tip Top Nails, pleaded guilty in August 2012 to knowingly evading federal reporting requirements on transactions exceeding $10,000.
Between May and September 2009, Yang made 15 withdrawals totaling $100,000, in increments of $4,000 to $8,000, to avoid the reporting requirement.
The Internal Revenue Service investigated the case and also found Yang employed unauthorized aliens and paid them in cash.
In Hartford on Friday, U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson ordered Yang forfeit $100,000 and perform 150 hours of community service.
