The Greenburgh Town Board approved a new program that allows a local development corporation to provide funding for property owners who plan to use more energy efficient systems to operate their businesses.
Energy Improvement Corporation will finance construction and installations ranging from new windows and doors to heating and cooling systems for qualified businesses. The goal for this corporation is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate the effect of global climate change and advance a clean energy economy by hiring a contractor certified by The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to evaluate the energy consumption levels of business properties and identify ways for them to be more energy efficient.
The cost of the installation and renovations for each company will not exceed 10 percent of the appraised value of the real property, according to the new law. The funding covers equipment, materials and the labor force. Energy Improvement Corporation will levy taxes on these properties for repayment at a later time, and the Town of Greenburgh will collect the fees.
Any property owner in the town of Greenburgh can submit an application to the EIC for review. The energy efficiency improvements outline in this new program is estimated to generate an annual cost savings greater than the annual charge payments.
