Norwalk Hospital became the first institutional entity to commit to taking space in a massive brownfield redevelopment site in Redding, part of a large hospital expansion at three separate sites.
The Georgetown Land Development Co. is clearing the former Gilbert and Bennett wire factory in Redding for commercial and residential use.
Norwalk Hospital is reserving at least 30,000 square feet for urgent-care services, and other clinical services such as laboratory, radiology and offices for primary-care physicians and specialists.
Norwalk Hospital also confirmed it is taking 100,000 square feet of space at iPark Norwalk, as first reported in the March 19 edition of the Fairfield County Business Journal, becoming the first entity to commit to space there as well. The building is a former laboratory of PerkinElmer.
Norwalk Hospital plans to establish medical practices there for internists, pediatricians, and women”™s health services.
Norwalk Hospital has also committed to taking 50,000 square feet of space for medical offices in a planned development on West Avenue in Norwalk, slated for a 2010 opening date.
At the main campus in Norwalk, the hospital is opening a vascular health center that includes two labs at a cost of $10 million.
Combined, the projects represent 250,000 square feet of new space, the largest expansion in the hospital”™s 114-year history.
“This growth and expansion will position Norwalk Hospital to achieve financial stability for years to come,” said Geoffrey Cole, president and chief executive officer of Norwalk Hospital.
