Flowers often go with weddings, but aren”™t normally associated with television. You can”™t even place a vase on top of a flat screen like you could with the old Philco cabinet model. But for Flowers by David Anthony, a New Windsor-based company for 15 years in Monroe with a new shop opening in Highland, a flair for flowers will be displayed on a national network this spring.
The show is “all very hush-hush,” said David Racine, who owns Flowers by David Anthony. “We just finished filming. It”™s a new reality show that will be about a fantasy wedding for a couple in the Hudson Valley.” He said part of the deal with the network is a gag order, but said it was all produced in the Marlboro and Newburgh area.
“We transformed the venue from a very normal traditional venue that is very elegant. We went way over the top, thousand and thousands of flowers, ceiling décor, really cool fabric, it was really fun to do.”
The effort was a success on many levels, he said, though on the day of filming the wedding he was too busy to interact with the bride at all, let alone consult with her on the décor. But Racine said, this week, a week after filming, she contacted him to enthuse over the flowers and to thank him for the work.
He said he got the network gig because his work is well known locally among event organizers and he said that network pre-production people had recommended him. And then, as if scripted, the advance people visited an event where he had done the flowers and loved what they saw.
But Racine said that while he loves doing large events “The man thing we want people to know about us is we cater to people”™s everyday flower needs. We specialize in doing the interesting and the unusual. I have a phenomenal design staff. We”™re firm believers in the axiom that you don”™t come to us to buy eggs, but don”™t go to supermarket to by flowers.”
Flowers by Anthony David is located in Monroe and the new location is at 437 New Paltz Road in Highland.
