Syria: With Syrian dictator al-Assad fleeing to Russia and being granted asylum, Israel today attacked Syria’s chemical weapons installations, strategic weapons systems and long-range rockets and missiles. U.S. military forces attacked ISIS strongholds in Syria to prevent members of the terrorist group from taking advantage of the political situation following al-Assad’s fall from power.
Meet the Press: Donald Trump appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press yesterday in an interview with correspondent Kristen Welker that was recorded at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump said he would pardon the Jan. 6 convicts who attacked police when they stormed the U.S. Capitol while also saying that members of the congressional committee who investigated the attempted coup should be put in jail. Trump admitted that his plan to put high tariffs on goods imported from overseas could raise prices for U.S. consumers.
Manhunt: The search for the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has become a nationwide manhunt with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer on top of the $10,000 reward being offered by the New York City Police Department. It’s believed that the suspect left New York City on a bus following the shooting. A backpack that is believed to have been carried by the suspect was found in Central Park.
Alleged assault: A woman who filed a lawsuit alleging she was sexually assaulted by music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs when she was 13 years old has amended her lawsuit to charge that performer Jay-Z also assaulted her at the party where she alleges the assault by Combs took place. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, denied the allegation. The woman has been identified only as Jane Doe.
Netanyahu: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to testify tomorrow in his corruption trial in Tel Aviv. Netanyahu was unsuccessful in trying to convince the judge in the case to postpone his testimony because of the war with Hamas. During the trial, which began in 2020 prosecutors presented evidence that Netanyahu broke the law numerous times including demanding gifts and bribes.
Taylor Swift: The New York Times reports that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has become the highest grossing music tour ever, grossing more than $2 billion in ticket sales. The Times says Swift’s production company, Taylor Swift Touring, confirmed the information. Swift was on the road for 21 months and attendance at her 149 performances topped 10 million. The final performance in the tour was last night in Vancouver.
