Leaf blower usage in Greenwich residential zones will be banned from 6pm on this Friday, May 24 through September 30, except for properties of more than two acres, which can re-start usage after the end of Labor Day.
In addition to the May to September restrictions, new rules about when gas-powered leaf blowers, may be used will go into effect year-round. On weekdays, leaf blowers can only be used between 8am and 6pm. On weekends and holidays gasoline leaf blowers can only be used between 9am and 3pm.
Commercial landscaping crews are barred from using gas powered leaf blowers in residential zones entirely on Sundays, and are limited to using a single leaf blower at a time on residential parcels that are not larger than a quarter acre.
Electric leaf blowers, however, are permitted year round. Numerous landscaping companies have applied for variances.
For the rest of 2024, violations of the ordinance will result in a warning. Starting in 2025 the first violation will result in a warning from Greenwich Police, with a second garnering a $100 fine and all subsequent incidents carrying a $249 fine.
