Each year following its sample sale, luxury outerwear brand Pologeorgis, known for fashion-forward sustainability since 1960, revs up the service side of its business to help clients nationwide preserve their fur pieces for generations to come.
On Tuesday, April 16, Connecticut Luxury will go live on Instagram for an interview showcasing the many services available at Pologeorgis’ Greenwich location – which will be the site of a meet-and-greet later that day. Pologeorgis’ specialty fur outerwear services include vintage restoration, professional fur and shearling cleaning, custom tailoring, secure cold storage, repair, upcycling and alterations. Such services are in tune with a trending attitude toward fur that seeks to use existing pieces rather than necessarily create new ones that are not sustainable.
“When a client comes to us with her mother’s or grandmother’s fur coat, we know it’s special and sentimental,” said Nick Pologeorgis, who with his sister, Joan Pologeorgis-Nathenas, operates a business founded by their father, Stanley, after he emigrated from Greece to the United States in the 1950s. (Niece Ariana Dimitrakis adds a third generation, leading the brand’s social-media marketing efforts.)
Added Nick: “Our expert team at the showroom in (Manhattan) is skilled in restoring these types of pieces, which is rare. What we often do is remodel a piece to update the silhouette or clean and repair the coat to make it look and feel like new again. I see my clients throughout the year, either adding to their outerwear collection or maintaining a collection’s lifespan with our services. We provide customer service at the highest level.”
Pologeorgis is a member of the International Fur Federation and holds the global certificate Furmark, which guarantees animal welfare and environmental standards for natural fur. Furmark-certified products are traceable, verified and guaranteed to meet numerous recognized standards, selected by a panel of industry stakeholders, scientists, sustainability leaders and welfare experts. Consumers are now able to access a wealth of information from leading animal welfare programs that makes the entire supply chain transparent for wild and farmed natural fur.
In addition to outerwear, Pologeorgis also carries fashion accessories and home décor. Each year, the brand brings together a resort-wear collection of family-owned artisan brands. Products like hats, handbags and dresses will be available at the Greenwich location through the end of July.
For Connecticut Luxury’s Wren Alaia, hosting the event is a no-brainer.
“When I started Connecticut Luxury, I realized just how popular Pologeorgis was among all the beautiful ladies I stopped to interview,” Alaia said. “Time after time, I’d ask women where their gorgeous coats, with stunning linings, were from and they would reply, ‘It’s from Nick at Pologeorgis. He’s amazing.’ Just watch my videos to see all the unique Pologeorgis coats.”
VIP appointments can be scheduled by phone (203-266-1966) or email (greenwich@pologeorgis.com) on Wednesday, April 17, as well as Tuesday, April 16.
