With NeoCon 2023, the commercial designers”™ showcase, taking place this week in Chicago, The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has shared a few workplace trends from its recently released 2023 Trends Outlook Report, which includes everything from the continued prioritization in designing for hybrid spaces to meeting the needs of all types of employees and working styles:
Multimodal workplaces help to optimize the work experience.”¯New hybrid work environments in the office include deep-focus spaces for quiet work, “soulful” spaces with comfortable and creative furniture and conversation nooks, innovation or event spaces, formal gathering spaces and community spaces.”¯
Companies are making workplaces more inclusive and accessible for neurodivergent employees.”¯Acknowledging neurodiversity ultimately means providing a choice that doesn’t involve people completely separating themselves from others.”¯
Smart technologies can benefit occupant comfort and well-being in the workplace.”¯The use of smart technologies to improve indoor air quality, personalize thermal comfort and acoustic control, sync lighting systems with circadian rhythms and facilitate accessibility can affect occupant well-being and contribute to more sustainable environments.”¯
