The Connecticut Green Building Council bestowed its “award of honor” on Nestle Waters North America, recognizing energy and environmental features of its Stamford headquarters.
Nestle Waters relocated from Greenwich to Stamford in 2010, taking over a site at 900 Long Ridge Rd. previously occupied by Oracle Corp. and its Hyperion software operations. Nestle Waters has about 500 employees there.
In 2008, Nestle Waters pledged to have all newly constructed building meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification of the U.S. Green Buildings Council; in 2003, it says it became the first beverage company to achieve LEED at its bottling plants.
Today Nestle Waters has 10 LEED-certified facilities covering 3.7 million square feet, and the company estimates it has diverted 22,000 tons of waste material from landfills and reduce energy use by 1.5 million kilowatt hours; carbon emissions by 2.1 million pounds; and water use by nine million gallons.
The company”™s Stamford headquarters includes:
Ӣ a white roof to keep the building cooler in summer;
Ӣ low-energy lighting;
Ӣ low-flow bathroom fixtures;
Ӣ preferred parking for low-emission vehicles; and
Ӣ furniture, carpets and other fixtures made from recycled materials.
