Turkish runoff:Â A runoff election is due to take place May 28 for president of Turkey after neither Turkish dictator Erdogan nor his challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu got a 50% majority in the just- concluded election. Erdogan finished with slightly votes more than his challenger, who campaigned on the theme of bringing democracy back to Turkey.
VICE bankruptcy:Â VICE Media, which makes movies, TV shows, operates a streaming network and has a news network said this morning it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It said the bankruptcy filing was in conjunction with the company being sold to a group of investors including Soros Fund Management for $225 million in credit.
Zelenskyy in London:Â Ukrainian President Zelenskyy made a previously unannounced trip to London today and met with Britain’s Prime Minister. Zelenskyy said he would ask for more weapons from Britain. Britain announce today that it will be sending more long-range drones and missiles to Ukraine.
Mercenary forces:Â The Washington Post reported this morning that the head of the mercenary forces fighting on behalf of Russia in the war against Ukraine planned to tell Ukrainians where Russian troops were located if the Ukrainians would agree to cut back their attacks on the mercenary forces. The Post also reported that mercenary leader Yevegny Prigzhin had talked to the Ukrainians several times.
Philadelphia Inquirer hacked:Â The newspaper The Philadelphia Inquirer has been hit by a cyber attack and the FBI is investigating. The newspaper’s computer systems were disrupted and its website was not functioning properly. The newspaper was unable to publish its Sunday edition due to the attack. Philadelphia has a primary for mayor tomorrow but it was not immediately known whether the attack on the newspaper was related the election.
Hitler recording:Â The British Broadcasting Corporation reports today that officials are trying to find out who took over the public address system on a train in Austria yesterday and played a recording of a speech by Adolf Hitler and sounds of crowds cheering “Heil Hitler.” The train was arriving in Vienna at the time of the incident. Hitler was born in Austria.
