FBI reported to have fired more agents
The Associated Press reports that the FBI has fired agents who worked on the investigation into Donald Trump having taken government documents, including classified materials, and stored them at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The AP said 10 or more of the FBI employees were fired and noted that the FBI also has fired agents who were involved in investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn results of the 202 election. The AP report comes as FBI Director Kash Patel is being criticized for using an FBI airplane to fly to Milan, Italy, where he attended ice hockey competition and celebrated in the locker room with the winning U.S. ice hockey team.
Newsom issues warnings about Trump
California Gov. Gavin Newsom in an interview with Jen Psaki on MSNow last night warned that Donald Trump plans to steal the 2026 election in order to keep control over the House and Senate. Newsom says that the Trump administration’s FBI raid on the election warehouse and seizure of ballots in Fulton County, Georgia, is a preview of what’s to come. “All across the United States he’s going to exert some authority that doesn’t exist,” Newsom said. He said that the administration is operating under “the rule of Don. The courts are speed bumps, they’re not stop signs. He tries to work around them.” Newsom also alleged that Trump and his family have been lining their pockets in a corruption story “the likes of which we’ve never seen in American history happening in real time and the Epstein files are reflective of that as well.”
Clinton depositions
Bill and Hillary Clinton are prepared to testify in a congressional investigation tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Their depositions are in Chappaqua with Hillary Clinton appearing today and the former president testifying tomorrow. The depositions are being videotaped and GOP committee staffers plan to release the footage within days of the interviews. Hillary Clinton has said she never met Epstein. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, traveled on Epstein’s private plane at least 16 times, according to a CNN review. He has never been accused by law enforcement of any wrongdoing related to Epstein and says he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes.
More talks with Iran
U.S. and Iranian delegations are meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, today for another round of negotiations aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program and potentially easing sanctions. The talks come amid heightened regional tensions, including ongoing protests inside Iran and mounting concerns about possible military escalation as the U.S. builds up its forces in the Middle East. In his State of the Union address, Donald Trump accused Iran of once again “pursuing their sinister ambitions” and faulted its leaders for refusing to say “those secret words: ‘We will never have a nuclear weapon.’” Iran, however, has repeatedly said it is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
Medicaid funds withheld
The Trump administration is withholding more than $250 million in Medicaid funds from Minnesota, claiming widespread fraud as it ramps up pressure on the state’s Democratic leadership but not providing evidence to back up its claim. Vice President Vance announced the extraordinary move on Wednesday, accusing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz of failing to adequately oversee the program. Vance said Minnesota is the first of several states that could face similar action for what he claims is rampant fraud in social services programs, again with no evidence presented of such alleged rampant fraud.
Cuban border guards kill four
Cuba said its border guard troops shot and killed four armed people on a speedboat in Cuban waters who were attempting to “infiltrate” the island nation for “terrorist purposes.” Local authorities said the boat was registered in Florida and was carrying Cubans who live in the U.S., one of whom allegedly opened fire on Cuban forces. Six others on the speedboat were apparently wounded and are now detained. The incident happened on Wednesday off of Cuba’s northern coast, following weeks of simmering tensions between the U.S. and Cuba due, in part, to the U.S. seizing oil shipments destined for Cuba.
