The House has passed and sent to the White House for Donald Trump’s signature the Laken Riley Act, which requires illegal immigrants who have been charged with a crime as small as shoplifting to be detained, arrested and then deported. The act is named after a nursing student who last year was killed by an immigrant from Venezuela. The bill had bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Â

Trump said he may eliminate FEMA, the agency that helps people and businesses recover from disasters. He threatened to withhold federal aid to California in the wake of the wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles County. Trump defended his pardons of Jan. 6 convicts who assaulted police officers. Â
Up to 50,000 people told to evacuate as two new wildfires break out in Los Angeles County.
Two new wildfires have broken out in Los Angeles County in addition to the three major fires that continued to burn. One of the new fires is called the Hughes Fire and rapidly grew in size to more than 10,000 acres. The second is the Sepulveda Fire, near the upscale community of Bel Air and the campus of UCLA. At least 50,000 people have been told to leave their homes. The known death toll so far in the LA fires stands at 28. Santa Ana winds that spread the fires and make then difficult to fight were forecast to continue at least through today. Â
The British send a warning to Russia about a spy ship.
British Defence Secretary John Healey has issued a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the British know what he is doing by sending a spy ship into British waters and will take robust action to protect Great Britain. The British Navy has been tracking a Russian spy ship that has been operating in Britain’s territorial waters for about a week. The British are concerned that the Russian ship may sabotage communication cables that are underwater.
Trump hurls vindictive at Washington’s Episcopal Bishop who responds by saying she’ll pray for him.
Donald Trump has hurled personal insults at the Episcopal Bishop of Washington after she spoke directly to him during a service at the Washington National Cathedral and begged him to be merciful and kind toward immigrants and other people. The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde responded to Trump’s harsh words against her by saying she will continue to pray for Trump. Trump said her service was boring and uninspiring and that she is a Trump hater. Trump also demanded an apology from her and the church for her having spoken directly to him from the pulpit.
