Three join Julia B. Fee
Julia B. Fee Sotheby”™s International Realty has announced that Maria Carlino, Beth Hargraves, and Bernadette Haley have left Houlihan Lawrence to join its firm. They will work together as the HCH agent team, the first to operate out of the company”™s new Irvington brokerage, which will open in late April and will primarily serve Westchester County”™s river towns. While waiting for the opening the HCH team will work out of the company”™s Bronxville office.
Hargraves had consistently ranked as Houlihan Lawrence”™s No.1 agent in single-family home sales in the river towns and achieved more than $130 million in sales volume since joining that firm in 2005. Her success has been recognized with numerous awards over the years, including the Westchester County Board of Realtors”™ Rookie of the Year award in 2005 as well as her former firm”™s Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Emerald awards. Hargraves has been an Irvington resident for 25 years.
Also an Irvington resident, Carlino has been a consistent top producer and brings several years of market knowledge and real estate expertise in the river towns area. Prior to her real estate career, Carlino owned her own information technology consulting firm, where she acquired skills in negotiating contracts that still serve her well with clients today.
Haley”™s results-driven energy and analytical slant originate from her previous 30-year career in magazine publishing, in which she served as the first-ever female publisher of America”™s largest monthly magazine, Reader”™s Digest, as well as launch publisher of Rodale”™s Organic Style and Hearst magazine”™s Quick & Simple. Haley has lived in Westchester County for more than 25 years.
Byne Group wins award
Suffern-based The Byne Group was recognized for excellence in the 2014 Cancer Awareness Advertising Awards (CAAA) program for its advertising and marketing efforts, which scored among the best in the nation. Byne is the recipient of a Gold Award for its Breast Health Awareness Campaign for Nyack Hospital. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1 million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer annually.

Sky-high run
Since registration opened two months ago, nearly 900 racers from 24 states and three countries have signed up for the inaugural Walkway Marathon race series to be launched in Poughkeepsie on June 13.
Race organizers Walkway Over the Hudson, in partnership with Dutchess County government and with support from the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club, are “pleasantly surprised” by the early commitment among runners representing both the mid-Hudson Valley and nearly half of the United States for the upcoming event, which features a marathon, half-marathon and the already established Treetops to Rooftops 5K event.
“I think this race series captivates runners of all abilities because it offers a wonderful new course that showcases the beauty of the Hudson River Valley while being in close proximity to two great epicenters of racing: New York City and Boston,” said Walkway Executive Director Elizabeth Waldstein-Hart.
More than 1,500 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes are expected to compete in one of three fast, flat USATF-certified races ”” a marathon, half-marathon and 5K run ”” all of which traverse the Hudson River on the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park.

Leadership classes available
Leadership Dutchess and Youth Leadership, run by The Chamber Foundation Inc., are accepting applications for their 2015-16 classes.
Leadership Dutchess sessions are held once per month September to June. Prominent individuals from the public and private sector, sharing their knowledge on real-world topics of leadership and municipal concerns impacting the Hudson Valley region, conduct each daylong session.
Youth Leadership is a two-year program designed to develop the academic, social and life skills of high school sophomores and juniors and focuses on giving these students out-of-the-classroom leadership experiences.

Abbott House adds to board
Abbott House in Irvington has added David Baranick, Jennifer Patton and Len Mitchell to its board of directors.
Baranick of Scarsdale has an MBA from the University of Southern California and is a certified public accountant. He is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Manhattan, where he leads advisory efforts in the areas of real estate debt and commercial real estate-debt related securities.
Patton of Bedford Hills has a Doctorate of Education in international educational development with a specialization in families and community education from Columbia University. She is the director of education at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers.
Mitchell of Armonk is an adjunct professor at Pace University and previously worked at City College of New York, Brooklyn College, Stern College for Women, SUNY New Paltz and Lehman College. Prior to his teaching career, he was both a private and corporate lawyer, last serving as vice president of taxes for Time Inc.
New title for Bieger
Michael Bieger of Monroe has been promoted to director of public relations at Goshen-based Focus Media Inc. He joined the firm in 2011 as a senior account executive. In his new role, he directs public relations strategy and content development initiatives.
Prior to joining Focus Media, he was the managing editor at Westfair Business Publications. He also spent nine years at The Journal News in White Plains, rising to the level of business editor.

Skanes to leave post
Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (BGCNW) Executive Director Brian Skanes will leave the organization this spring. He has served in his current role at the BGCNW since 1994 and celebrated his 40th year with the organization on national and local levels in 2014. Skanes will continue his career with Boys & Girls Clubs of America as director of major metro services.
As a former Boys & Girls Club member, Skanes has dedicated his life to the nonprofit. Over the past four decades, he has worked his way up within the organization, serving as program director, assistant executive director, regional vice president and executive director at clubs throughout the Northeast before landing in Mount Kisco more than 20 years ago.
During his time at the BGCNW, Skanes spearheaded several successful campaigns, including those that raised $7 million for the club”™s major renovation and expansion in 1997 and $4 million for program expansions in 2003. Under Skanes”™ leadership, the club”™s budget quadrupled from $800,000 in 1994 to $3.2 million today, the majority raised through donations and a well-developed fundraising program. BGCNW celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014 and currently serves more than 1,700 children yearly ”” between 500 to 600 daily ”” from 60 northern Westchester towns.
This year, Skanes will be the recipient of the club”™s prestigious “Humanitarian of the Year” award, and will be honored at the annual Humanitarian Award Dinner June 6 at the Hilton Westchester.
Skanes will remain with the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester through spring. BGCNW has created a board-led search committee, which is looking at qualified leaders able to bring a wealth of experience and deep dedication to the role.

Art fundraiser
Mental Health Services Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley will be the special recipient at the 19th annual Jewish Federation of Ulster County”™s Fall for Art gala art show and cocktail reception fundraiser Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston from 6 to 9 p.m. This fundraising event raises more than $20,000 each year for distribution to many not-for profits, including the Hudson Valley Food Bank, Family of Woodstock, CASA, People”™s Place, Jewish Family Services and area synagogues.

Justice awards planned
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley will hold its 2015 “Equal Access to Justice” dinner March 26, at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, in White Plains. The event will honor “Access to Justice” awardees Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. of DelBello Donnellan Weingarten Wise & Wiederkehr LLP, and the law firm of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP. This year”™s “Advocate for Justice” award will be given to the Westchester Community Foundation and its Executive Director Catherine Marsh.
The dinner is co-chaired by Courtney R. Rockett of Boies, Schiller & Flexner and Frances Pantaleo of Bleakley Platt & Schmidt. Honorary co-chairs include Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, New York state Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore and Westchester County Legislature Chairman Michael Kaplowitz.
