There”™s a chill in the air at Doral Arrowood Hotel and Conference Center and that”™s a good thing, according to the company doing the cooling.
The facility in Rye Brook maintains 373 temperature-controlled guest rooms and another 33 dedicated rooms, including a 6,500-square-foot ballroom.
Waltham, Mass.-based American DG Energy Inc., which bills itself as an “on-site utility offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling solutions to hospitality, healthcare, housing and athletic facilities,” recently began operating a pair of 450-ton chillers at Doral Arrowwood.
The systems cool the property, but are owned and operated by American DG Energy. The chillers are in addition to the 375 kW of combined heat and power  systems operating at the property since 2011 that are owned and operated by American DG Energy and that provide electricity, heat and hot water.
American DG Energy said that via its on-site utility energy solution, the hotel was able to avoid the capital expenditures it was about to face. Doral Arrowwood will only pay for the energy produced by the chillers and avoided all capital, installation and operating costs of the systems.
American DG Energy, as part of its mission, sells the energy produced from an on-site energy system to an individual property as an alternative to the outright sale of energy equipment. On-site utility customers only pay for the energy produced by the system and receive a guaranteed discount rate on the price of the energy. All system capital, installation and operating expenses are paid by American DG Energy.
