A proposal has been put forth to build an Aldi grocery store in Monroe.
According to a report in The Monroe Sun, the 20,844-square-foot store would be located behind the Panera Bread Café within Town Line Plaza at 205 Monroe Turnpike. The store is part of a larger conceptual plan that includes a Noble gas station and convenience store plus a 10,000-square-foot medical building.
“It”™s everything you get at a typical grocery store for a lot less and it”™s easier to shop,” said Bruno Lourenco, director of real estate for Aldi.
The Aldi chain has more than 2,000 stores across 36 states. There are 31 Aldi locations in Connecticut but only two are based in Fairfield County ”“ one in Danbury and one in Fairfield.
A special permit application will come before the town”™s Planning and Zoning Commission on June 1.
“We”™re ready to go,” Lourenco said. “We”™re a privately held company. We have money in hand to build the store once we get through the approval process. It usually takes 20 to 22 weeks for construction.”
