A Roman Catholic university and a commercial real estate company were recognized for their economic contributions to Westchester County at the annual awards dinner of the county”™s Building Owners and Managers Association.
Nearly 200 members of the county”™s commercial real estate industry turned out to honor Fordham University and the Reckson division of SL Green Realty at the 18th Annual BOMA Hall of Honor Awards Dinner, held at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown.
Fordham last fall opened its new Westchester campus at 400 Westchester Ave. in Harrison. Set on 32 landscaped acres, the three-story, 62,500-square-foot building houses the adult undergraduate program as well as the graduate schools of social service, religion and religious education, education and business administration.
Reckson/SL Green owns and manages office buildings in Rye Brook, White Plains, Valhalla and Tarrytown. Its prominent properties include 360 Hamilton Ave. in White Plains, The Summit in Valhalla and the Reckson Executive Park in Rye Brook.
The Fordham-leased building and its owner and manager, GHP Office Realty in Harrison, received the BOMA Office Building of the Year Award for buildings under 10,000 square feet.. GHP Office Realty in 2007 partnered with Benerofe Properties Corp. of Harrison to acquire the 440 Westchester Ave. property from Verizon Communications Corp. as part of a $153-million portfolio sale of 16 office and industrial properties in eight states.
C.W. Brown Inc., the building contractor for renovations to Fordham University”™s new Westchester center, won the BOMA Best Green Initiative. Owners Renee and Charles W. Brown Jr. last year added rooftop photovoltaic panels to their construction company”™s 11,000-square-foot building in Thornwood, making it the first company in the state to use a commercial net metering system for renewable energy.
The county”™s granddaddy of class-A office buildings, Westchester One at 44 S. Broadway in White Plains, was named BOMA”™s Comeback Building of the Year. The owner, an affiliate of Beacon Capital Partners L.L.C., completed $13 million in capital improvements to the 852,000-square-foot building in 2008, when Westchester One was named a BOMA Office Building of the Year. The 34-year-old property in the White Plains central business district is managed by Cushman & Wakefield Inc.   Â
