Taryn Duffy, vice president of corporate communications and public affairs at Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts, will be recognized with the United Way Women”™s Leadership Council 2021 “Woman of Distinction” award at the United Way of Westchester and Putnam”™s annual “Take a Walk in Her Shoes” event Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This year, the event will be in a virtual format.
A prominent voice for the empowerment of women, Duffy has a passion for civic responsibility and volunteer service, particularly mentoring women in their careers. She is a frequent speaker on nonprofit advocacy and development and is a strong proponent for the advancement of women in business and the political arena.
The event will feature a panel discussion, moderated by Elizabeth Bracken-Thompson, focused on women leaders in the health care sector and how they led others as well as themselves through the Covid-19 pandemic. Participants in the discussion include Dr. Sherlita Amler, Westchester County Commissioner of Health, who led the county public health response to the Covid-19 pandemic and played a significant role in its campaign to reverse the county”™s rising death toll; Judith M. Watson, CEO of Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Inc., a long-time health care leader working to provide access to health care to vulnerable populations in our local communities; Stacey Petrower, president of New York Presbyterian (NYP) Hudson Valley Hospital, a career professional in the industry responsible for the hospital”™s strategic direction and management; and Laurie Ann Walsh, vice president and chief nursing officer at NYP Lawrence Hospital, who developed extension ICU units, revised nursing care models and patient flow and implemented activities to assist staff in building resilience and decrease stress during this very challenging time.
