From the deputy mayor’s office to commissionerships and department heads, Mayor Mike Spano has appointed talented women to key roles that drive Yonkers’ growth, innovation, and community connection.
“We are weaving diversity into the fabric of our operations because it is a source of strength for City Hall.”
“I believe in empowering women to shape policy, and my goal is to make Yonkers a model for other municipalities,” said Mayor Spano. “We are weaving diversity into the fabric of our operations because it is a source of strength for City Hall.”
The women of Yonkers City Hall lead with distinction in areas ranging from economic development and communications to diversity and technology, highlighting the strength of inclusive leadership.
Growing the presence of women in the administration’s top-level cabinet positions is not the only aspect of Mayor Spano’s push to make city government more reflective of the communities it serves. Yonkers ranks as one of the top cities for LGBTQ+ inclusion in its laws and policies. At the same time, Yonkers increased its municipal minority workforce by more than 50% since Mayor Spano took office in 2012.
Through these efforts, Yonkers demonstrates that meaningful diversity and inclusion initiatives are not just slogans but powerful tools for progress. By fostering an administration that reflects city residents, Yonkers is strengthening its economy and reinforcing the idea that equity is essential for success in the 21st century.
