In recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Westchester County Office for Women (OFW), under the leadership of County Executive Ken Jenkins and with the support of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, obtained 100 cell phones for high-risk clients served by the Office for Women.
The phones were donated through a partnership with T-Mobile for OFW clients who are victims of domestic violence in high-risk situations. For victims, access to a clean, safe and reliable phone can be a lifeline in emergencies — allowing them to call 911, contact advocates and connect with critical services without fear of being monitored or cut off.
Jenkins said, “Domestic Violence Awareness Month reminds us that too many of our neighbors live with fear and danger every day. These phones are more than just devices — they are a tool for safety, protection and empowerment. This initiative ensures that victims of domestic violence have a reliable way to seek help when they need it most.”
Westchester County Office for Women Director Robi Schlaff said, “For our high-risk clients, safety planning often begins with access to reliable communication. This initiative highlights the county’s commitment to protecting and empowering survivors, not just in October but all year long.
