Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla was the site of a recent Pride Month Celebration that was as educational as it was entertaining for all who attended. Representatives from WMCHealth’s Ally Care Center organized the event at which they distributed critical health and wellness information and offered the community free HIV and hepatitis C testing, and assisted attendees in securing prescriptions for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
In addition to the celebration event at Westchester Medical Center, Ally Care Center representatives also interacted with the community at Pride Month events hosted by Westchester County, at Yonkers Pride, Putnam Pride, Greenburgh Pride, and the Hudson Valley Renegades’ Pride Night.
“We are proud to serve the LGBTQ community,” said Rebecca Glassman, M.D., medical director of the Ally Care Center. “At Pride events, we want to connect with members of the LGBTQ+ community and make them aware of all the important services we provide. We also want to make sure other health-care providers are aware of our services.”
For her work as medical director of the Ally Care Center, Glassman was recently honored by Westchester County with an LGBTQ+ Leadership Award for health-care providers focused on LGBTQ+ education and health equity.
The Ally Care Center at WMCHealth offers a full array of health-care services, and as part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, patients have access to a full array of subspecialty care.
The Ally Center first opened its doors in the early 1990s to treat patients with HIV. Since then, it has evolved into a comprehensive health-care center and safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community to seek treatment without judgment or stigma on everything from HIV to transgender hormone treatments and more.
