Evan Cohen, M.D., a board-certified emergency medicine physician with extensive leadership experience, has been appointed chair of the department of emergency medicine at Northwell Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in Mount Kisco, New York.
In his new role, Cohen will focus on enhancing the quality and efficiency of emergency care delivery, strengthening clinical education programs and fostering greater collaboration across various clinical teams to optimize patient outcomes. Recognized for his expertise in such critical areas as sepsis, stroke and cardiac emergencies, Cohen has also contributed to research on monoclonal antibody treatments and the integration of telemedicine in emergency care.
Prior to joining Northwell Cohen served as medical director of the emergency department at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, New York, where he managed daily operations and led initiatives to improve quality of care and patient safety. Previously, he was the associate director of emergency medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. He also held academic positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine.
A prominent researcher in his field, Cohen has authored and co-authored various publications. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, he received the United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award in 2022 for his leadership in quality of care, patient safety and patient experience. He graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in biology, earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed an emergency medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. Additionally, he has refined his leadership skills through Envision’s Physician Leadership Academy and Advanced Clinical Leadership Program. He is a member of the ACEP.
