The Yonkers Industrial Development Agency (YIDA) recently presented 10 Yonkers high school students with 2024 Parkledge Breakthrough Scholarship awards totaling $25,000.
The high school seniors each won awards of $2,500 and were given to only those seniors who have been enrolled in a Yonkers school for all four years of high school, in good academic standing and accepted to a post-secondary institution that leads to a degree, license or certification. The awardees were required to have a recommendation from a member of the faculty who knows the student well, Â provide a personal statement concerning his/her future community service goals and how his/her education will contribute to these goals. The scholarship fund was created by the Parkledge Apartments.
The 2024 scholarship awardees are: Priya Chacko, Yonkers High School; Victoria Diaz, Gorton High School; Issa Eid, Barack Obama School for Social Justice; Abigail Garcia, Gorton High School; Anyoly Ogando, Riverside High School; Amy Sanchez, Gorton High School; Jacqueline Santos Pinto, Riverside High School; Marykay Scott, Yonkers Montessori Academy; Darlenys Ynoa, Saunders Trades and Technical High School; and Chanellie Capellan, Sacred Heart High School.
