Burke Rehabilitation, a member of the Montefiore Health System, has been granted $1 million in state capital funding to build a CT scanner suite at Burke’s 150-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in White Plains, New York. The scanner will save time in diagnosing and treating patients’ illnesses and injuries, improving outcomes and creating a more seamless care experience for patients who are today sent to other facilities in the area for CT scans.

The new CT scanner suite is made possible by $500,000 secured by Stewart-Cousins, $250,000 secured by Mayer, and $250,000 secured by Paulin. The funding, part of New York’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability and Technology Program, will be deployed this year.
Stewart-Cousins said, “I am proud to deliver $500,000 to support Burke’s efforts to improve patients’ experience as they recover from traumatic illnesses and injuries, right here in Westchester.” The addition of a CT scanner suite complements several recent expansions across Burke’s continuum of care.
Mayer said, “I am pleased to have secured $250,000 for Burke Rehabilitation, on top of the funding Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Member Paulin secured, to ensure Burke can continue providing high-quality care. Burke has long been a pillar in our community for excellent physical and medical rehabilitation care for both inpatient and outpatient settings. I look forward to continued collaboration with Burke to improve and expand access to comprehensive rehabilitation care.”
Burke anticipates that, once fully functional, the new CT scanner suite will serve an average of 300 patients per year. These are patients that, today, need to be transported to another medical facility for scans, which delays their diagnosis and treatment process. An in-house CT suite will allow scans to be conducted onsite and read electronically, drastically reducing delays. This improvement not only saves time but also has the potential to save lives by enabling the rapid diagnosis and treatment of suspected or confirmed brain bleeds.

Burke expects to begin construction on the CT scanner suite in the fall of 2025. The suite is anticipated to be operational and serving patients in the winter of 2025.
