Award-winning TV journalist Dan Rather will speak at Manhattanville College this month as part of the school’s Castle Conversations speaker forum series.
A reporter for CBS for decades, Rather is recognized for his coverage of the Kennedy assassination; the space race; political conventions; wars in Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan; and the 9/11 attacks.
No longer a part of the mainstream media establishment of which he was a notable figure, Rather has stated that the “Fourth Estate ”“ news ”“ is being challenged and undermined on a daily basis. In the past two decades, the critical ability of a free and independent press to report on important issues locally, nationally and internationally has been severely curtailed, damaged and sometimes outright corrupted.”
Manhattanville said the Castle Conversations series seeks to engage, challenge and enlighten residents of Westchester and Fairfield counties with intellectual exploration from influential thought leaders.
Rather will speak at 7 p.m. June 24 in Reid Castle on the college”™s Purchase campus.
Rather may still be alive, but Dan is Rather dead.
