Dan Rather to speak at Manhattanville College

Award-winning TV journalist Dan Rather will speak at Manhattanville College this month as part of the school’s Castle Conversations speaker forum series.

A reporter for CBS for decades, Rather is recognized for his coverage of the Kennedy assassination; the space race; political conventions; wars in Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan; and the 9/11 attacks.

No longer a part of the mainstream media establishment of which he was a notable figure, Rather has stated that the “Fourth Estate ”“ news ”“ is being challenged and undermined on a daily basis. In the past two decades, the critical ability of a free and independent press to report on important issues locally, nationally and internationally has been severely curtailed, damaged and sometimes outright corrupted.”

Manhattanville said the Castle Conversations series seeks to engage, challenge and enlighten residents of Westchester and Fairfield counties with intellectual exploration from influential thought leaders.

Rather will speak at 7 p.m. June 24 in Reid Castle on the college”™s Purchase campus.
