The owner of a Port Chester restaurant faces multiple misdemeanor charges in village court for allegedly failing to pay minimum wages and overtime to former employees.
Elisa Parto failed to pay more than $35,000 in legally required wages since opening her business, Elisa”™s Food & Plus Inc., at 73 Poningo St. in 2010, said state Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman when announcing the arraignment Thursday.
Parto allegedly did not pay or was late in paying minimum wage and overtime earnings to at least five hired cooks, cashiers and cleaners, who sometimes worked more than 70 hours a week, according to the attorney general”™s office.
If convicted, the restaurant owner faces a maximum one-year jail term year and fines up to $5,000 for each count.
