Maura Smith, a former executive with General Electric, PepsiCo and Owens Corning, has been named a partner at the Westport-based Law Offices of Edward Nusbaum P.C.
Smith had run her own law firm with offices in New York City and New Canaan since 2016. Earlier in her career, Smith was general counsel for GE Plastics and later became an officer at GE.
In 1998, she became senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Owens Corning, also serving as the company”™s chief restructuring officer and a member of its board of directors. In 2003, Smith joined International Paper as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, leaving in 2011 to become chief legal officer of PepsiCo.
Two years later, she relocated to Belgium to become executive vice president, general counsel, and general secretary of Delhaize Group, now Ahold Delhaize, the food retailer whose brands include Stop & Shop. She returned to the U.S. at the end of 2014.
Smith has also served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on its national roster of commercial arbitrators. Since 2016, she has been a director with BluePath Service Dogs Inc., a nonprofit providing trained service dogs to children with autism.
