HAMDEN – The latest Quinnipiac University poll finds that nearly two-thirds of voters disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
In the wake of the U.S. Justice Department and the FBI announcing last week that there would be no new files released in the investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison awaiting sex trafficking charges, 63% disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of the files, 17% approve and 20% did not offer an opinion.
Republicans are split with 40% approving of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files, 36% disapproving and 24% not offering an opinion. Democrats (83%) and independents (71%) disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files.
The poll is based on a survey of 1,290 self-identified registered voters nationwide from July 10-14 with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
Third party
Forty-nine percent of voters say they would consider joining a third party as an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties, while 45% say they would not consider joining a third party.
More than three-quarters of voters (77%) say they would not consider joining a third party if billionaire and one-time Trump supporter Elon Musk created it as an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties, while 17% say they would consider joining it.
Congress job approval
Voters’ job approval for the Democrats in Congress reaches another record low since Quinnipiac University began asking this question of registered voters in March 2009.
Nineteen percent of voters approve of the way the Democrats in Congress are handling their job, while 72% disapprove and 10% did not offer an opinion. The previous low was 21% in Quinnipiac University’s June 11 and Feb. 19 polls.
One-third of voters approve of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling their job, while 62% disapprove and 5% did not offer an opinion.
