Take a man with an extensive background in the recording-audiovisual industry, two enterprising business women and the Internet. The result? An Internet radio show attracting listeners as near as Blauvelt and as far away as Belgium, and a business show to add cachet to its extensive format.
Richard Quinn saw how quickly the Internet was catching on. He began  rocklandworldradio.com in May 2003. From music to business, Quinn invites a number of speakers and features dozens of venues on his station, which he said attracts 20,000 listeners a day.
“Through software, we know exactly how many people are tuning in and where they are located,” he said. Quinn has added video-streaming to his site and every show is archived.
Lizanne Fiorentino and Liz Benuscak, members of the Rockland Business Women”™s Network, host a weekly show titled “The Business Beat,” Tuesdays between 10 and 11 a.m. They are heading into their second season. In addition to inviting guest speakers to talk shop, they”™ll now be reading breaking stories from Hudson Valley Business each week.
“Hudson Valley Business will be a terrific addition to our show,” said Fiorentino, who switched from a community to business format in January 2006 and brought on Benuscak as co-host. “Whether it”™s a mom-and-pop operation or a multinational corporation, business people always have issues and our aim is to get them through the crunch and to the next level. Having a dedicated business-paper partner with us will bring more information to our listeners.”
The co-hosts also work with Andi Gray, who writes a weekly column, Ask Andi, in Hudson Valley Business. “If we have questions, we can ”˜Ask Andi,”™ too!” said Fiorentino. Gray is president of Strategy Leaders Inc., a business consulting firm.
Dee DelBello, publisher of Hudson Valley Business, Westchester County Business Journal, Fairfield County Business Journal and Westchester Generations, and Quinn, producer and owner of Modern Metro in Nyack and rocklandworldradio.com, are looking forward to their collaboration.
“We see it as a win for everyone concerned,” Fiorentino said of the newly formed alliance.
“The Business Beat” will begin its fall season at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11, featuring guests Jeanne Struck of JS Group, a marketing firm, and Rona Thaler Brand, an interior designer. While the focus will be on setting and achieving goals, the group also will share views on the Sept. 1, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“We can”™t have a show on that date without realizing its significance. It”™s a very difficult day for many of us,” said Fiorentino, whose husband, a New York City firefighter, was a first responder at Ground Zero.
“We plan to talk about 9/11, whether it is (on a) personal or professional level and how it has affected us. We”™ll also discuss the importance of having a support system and getting help to move past setbacks to achieve goals.”
