IBM Corp. consultants and about 20 area female business executives sat face to face, one-on-one at IBM Somers this month at a session the company called “speed mentoring.” Think speed dating without any awkward pairings and with guaranteed follow-ups.
IBM volunteers worked with the Women”™s Enterprise Development Center, a nonprofit that provides training and support services for startup and established female entrepreneurs. The center is initiating a corporate mentoring program.

Anne M. Janiak said the group has supported businesses since its formation 17 years ago. “Our collaboration with IBM will provide local entrepreneurs with knowledgeable mentors, helping their businesses to develop long-term resilience and sustainability.”
IBM, which is based in Armonk, billed the event as “Big Business Meets Small Business” and said the mentors would have several follow-up sessions during the next two months.
Sonya Miller, IBM”™s senior location executive in Westchester, said the event, held April 10, was part of the company”™s On Demand Community volunteer initiative. That initiative, which has gone on for 10 years, supports company employees and the organizations where they volunteer.
“These women mean business,” Miller said, “and we are delighted to help them overcome the hurdles that may be preventing them from expanding and prospering.”
Thank you to WEDC and IBM for putting on a wonderful event. I look forward to using the knowledge to propel Honor You forward. A special thank you to Sonya Miller.
Thanks to IBM and WEDC for this wonderful opportunity. It was exciting to meet so many brilliant, savvy, dedicated experts.
Thanks so much to the WEDC & IBM teams that worked with us small business entrepreneurs during this “speed mentoring” event. I was able to connect and get feedback from several IBM Marketing, Business Planning & Social Media Experts. I am looking forward to a great mentoring relationship with my IBM mentor as I work with them to focus on business strategies to grow revenues and clients for my businesses.
