Southern Westchester OB/GYN Associates merged today with Westmed Medical Group.
“Westmed is always interested in high-quality doctors and expanding our footprint across Westchester to provide better services for our patients,” said Dr. Richard Morel, co-medical director for Westmed.
The physicians include Rosalie Alvarado, Philip Florio, Dmitry Gerber, John Ilario and Shahram Razmzan. They will continue to practice at their two Yonkers locations, at 1022 N. Broadway and 656 Yonkers Ave., and they will retain their staff and add a phlebotomist at the North Broadway office.
Westmed already had 35 obstetrical and gynecological providers at other locations, and delivers more than 2,000 babies a year at White Plains Hospital and Greenwich Hospital. The new doctors serve about 11,000 patients and practice at St. John”™s Riverside Hospital.
The advantage to Westmed, Dr. Morel said, is that it can now expand obstetrical and gynecological services to another area of Yonkers. Westmed also has a multidisciplinary office at Ridge Hill in northwest Yonkers.
He said small practices are finding it difficult to satisfy regulatory requirements. Westmed provides the support services. Health care metrics are closely tracked, for example. Its clinical laboratory can quickly process test results. Patients get access to online services such as scheduling, prescriptions and secure email communications with doctors.
Before the merger, Westmed, headquartered in Purchase, had 321 physicians practicing at nine locations. It is known for consolidating a variety of specialties in one place, enabling patients to get all of their health care needs met at one time and place.
This is not good news. You will find that out soon after your first visit (and first bill).
